"when i get home..."

Wendy had a rough morning. Her catheter reached its useful life span today. She also had to have her Wound V.A.C. taken out, the incision site cleaned, and a new Wound V.A.C. installed. The entire process was painful and took a lot longer than it should have, three times as long.

Her morning walk wasn't as successful as she'd hoped for. She was still in a lot of pain from the Wound V.A.C. cleaning and re-installation. She was disappointed and extremely emotional after she couldn't walk as far as she had the day before. Her mom, nurses, and physical therapist reassured her that she is doing a great job and making good progress. She is really down on herself right now.

Wendy had a better evening. She sat in a chair for her longest stint yet, from 5:00 - 8:00 pm. There were points where she was in a lot of pain and extremely exhausted but one of her favorite nurses, Suzy, pushed and encouraged her to continue to sit. She was communicating well and had clear thoughts while she was up. She talked a lot about Skyler and Jadon. For the first time today she started some of her sentences with, "When I get home..."

Suzy is Wendy's night nurse this evening and Wendy is her only patient. Suzy promised Georgia that Wendy would get a good sponge bath tonight and some extra TLC and attention.

Wendy's mom is so excited about the laptop's arrival tomorrow. She really thinks the perfectly spoken prayers, incredibly supportive gestures, and loving comments from Wendy's many fans and followers will really give her a much needed boost.

Pray...
  • The removal of Wendy's catheter was done in time and didn't cause any damage.
  • The Wound V.A.C. continues to effectively pull out dead cells, infection, and excess fluids.
  • Wendy is filled with renewed strength and confidence.
Praises...
  • The amazing nurses that continue to care for Wendy.
  • Pushing through the pain and sitting up for three hours straight.
Finally, be strong in the Lord, and in the strength of his might. Ephesians 6:10

  1. Wendy,
You are amazing! I am Jason Patterson's mom and my whole family have been praying for you several times a day! My 87 year old Mother calls me twice a day and asks if there is a praise report on Wendy. We are so happy that there have been so many. We are anxiously awaiting many more miracles in your recovery. We will keep praying until you are home and healthy and with your family. May the peace of our Heavenly Father surround you tonight and give you rest.
    Praying for many more blessings,
    Sharon Patterson

  2. Wendy,
Brad and I have been on the blog every night, we are so thankful that this blog is available so we can follow the progress you have made. You are such a fighter and we know God is working a miracle to heal you. You are inspirational! I find myself feeling like I am right next to you when I read the details of your day. I am amazed when I think of the lives you are touching at UC Davis and how God is using you to bring a number of people to him. We are praying hard and we know you are a fighter, keep it up!! We love you and we can't wait to see you when you return home.

  3. Dear Wendy,
Your parents sent me an email that linked me to your blog. You are truly an amazing woman! My family and I check out your blog a few times a day for daily updates. We are praying for you and your entire family as you all go through this "season" of your life. Your strength is so encouraging and to see God's work in your life as well as many others is just a blessing in itself. God loves you so much Wendy! Your family is beautiful and I want you to know that you are on my heart daily. Keep strong and can't wait to read about the day you go home to your family.
    Many Blessings,
    Tobi Heyde Thomas & family

  4. I have wept, prayed, and rejoiced with your blog. It has become part of our lives as it is yours. Know that so many are praying for you and that your loving Father hears these many petitions!

As you walk, remember this. Big, tough football players are proud when they make it 10 yards down the football field! NEVER give up!

It is a LONG game, but victory is that much sweeter when you show them your stuff!

Listen to the Lord as He calls the plays.

God Bless! We love you! --- Uncle Ron

  5. Hi Hubby! I am constantly in awe of your strength and courage as I obsessively check up on you. :) You are in so many peoples' hearts and prayers, people that don't even know you, but have begun cheering you on and rooting for your progress and healing. We would love to have the boys over to play one of these days, maybe on Skyler's gymnastics day? Please tell CB and GB that the kids would love to see them and hang out with them for the afternoon. I love you so incredibly much Wendy, and once again, as you have done so many times for me in the past, you are teaching me about faith, love, strength, courage, and perseverance. You are amazing Wendell.
