gather and pray

Welcome to The Manzo Family blog. For the next months this will be a place where you can get updates on the Manzo family, specifically Wendy and her journey to get healthy. For the time being the updates and prayer requests on this blog will be taken care of by her friends. Once Wendy is fully restored to great health she will take over and the blog will boast of happy times in the life of the four Manzos. Until then, please gather here and pray for her specific requests.

In early September Wendy contratced H1N1, and a doctor's visit led to concern about difficulty breathing and chest pain. A chest x-ray led to a CT scan, biopsy, and PET scan. Wendy has several large thymomas (tumors) pressed against her right lung. They range in size from a lemon to larger than a softball. They are putting a lot of pressure on her lung, causing difficulty breathing, increasing discomfort (chest and back pain), and extreme fatigue. She has been referred to a lung specialist at the UC Davis medical facility and will meet with him on Wednesday, October 7th. She will have major surgery as they will go in and remove all of the tumors. It looks at this time as if she will get to keep her lung, but they won't know fully until surgery is underway. The surgery date has not been scheduled yet. Recovery will be long and painful. The doctors and surgeons are optimistic that this is a "do-able" surgery and hope for great success. Wendy is not able to work at this point and will be off work for the next few months.

Pray...
  • Pray that the surgery date will be soon.
  • Pray in advance that the team of surgeons and nurses would be the exact team God wants to care for Wendy. She is hoping to use this situation to somehow encourage those around her and show the love of Christ and God's grace to those who care for her.
  • Pray for The Manzo and Beckett families as this is just as hard for them as Wendy.
  • Pray for Skyler and Jadon as they adjust to "Mommy being sick".

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Jeremiah 29:11

  8. Wendy, Don't know if you remember me from Liddell when you student taught there 8 years ago? I didn't recognize your name until I read this blog that a friend posted on Facebook. I'll be keeping you in my prayers & will pass your prayer requests on to others. I donated some sick days to you a few weeks ago but if there's a need for more, I'd like to donate more. Take care of yourself! You can get through this!!

  12. Wendy and family, we are praying for you. God is such a great and faithful God. Hold on to your faith. I pray that the Lord give you peace and strength to walk through this season in your lives. His will is always perfect. We may not understand why, but know that He does and He is never failing. He is in control and carries you in His hands. If there is anything we can do, let us know.

  13. Dear Wendy,
My heart has gone out to you and your family the moment I heard of this. I am in the midst of dealing with my own hurdles of "figuring out why Mommy is sick" and have great compassion for you, the kiddos and your husband. I will commit to praying for you guys. God has been so faithful with us to provide, protect and prepare each step of our journey and I know He will do the same for you (emotionally, physically). Praying that God will surround you with His peace and wisdom.

  15. It is quite a shock to find someone with your own name, half way across the globe, who even looks somewhat similar to you - and more so to learn they are ill. I pray health, life, and vitality over you Wendy. I speak to every cell in your body and command alignment with the Kingdom of God. You shall recover with amazing speed and astound your doctors. I speak peace and comfort over you and to all those around you - the shalom peace of God, everything complete and nothing missing. I pray restoration, in Jesus' name, and love and joy. I pray all your days are rich with the fullness of God.
